Grassroots Brings FeastOn to St. Thomas
There’s something extra special happening at Grassroots, and it’s not just the warm hospitality or beautifully crafted dishes. This summer, Grassroots officially became FeastOn certified — a provincial recognition for restaurants committed to sourcing Ontario ingredients and supporting sustainable food systems. Even better, they’re the only restaurant in Elgin County and London to earn the honour.
What FeastOn Means
For Terrie Collard and Chef Rob Lampman, FeastOn is more than a badge on the door. It’s proof of the commitment they’ve had since day one: building menus around the flavours of Ontario and the relationships they’ve nurtured with local farmers, bakers, and brewers.
Today, 90% of Grassroots’ ingredients come from local producers — from Lake Erie pickerel in their fish & chips, to fresh vegetables from Burke’s Produce, to Carve Premium Ontario Beef in their dry-aged burgers. Even the focaccia comes daily from Cobs Bread, baked fresh that morning.
As Rob puts it, focusing on local means the menu is always shifting: sweet corn and tomatoes in the summer, hearty roots and squash in the fall. That seasonality keeps things creative in the kitchen — and gives guests a true taste of Ontario with every visit.
Why It Matters
Dining at Grassroots isn’t just about treating yourself (though the pan-seared scallops, roasted pork belly, and seasonal brie are reason enough). It’s also about investing back into our community. Every dish supports local growers and artisans, ensuring that food dollars stay here in Elgin County and across Ontario.
Guests feel that difference. Many come specifically for the local-first approach, and the stories that come with each plate make the experience even more personal.
Why You Should Go
Grassroots has quickly become a St. Thomas destination — warm, stylish, and rooted in community. Whether you’re sharing roasted local carrots to start, tucking into a steak feature, or enjoying a Sunday lunch with their signature dry-aged burger, you’ll know you’re part of something bigger: a celebration of local food and the people who grow it.
Grassroots isn’t just raising the bar for dining in Elgin County — they’re putting our region on the map. And with FeastOn certification in hand, every meal is a reason to feel proud about eating close to home.
